Australia partner visa (820/801) application 2020
On 03/05/2020 by Nao1510I and my partner applied partner visa in April 2020. I am here to share what we submitted and what we answered. I am happy if my blog post helps others because I was helped a lot by personal blogs who applied the visa before 😉
Situation
We met in Australia while I was studying there for a year. I returned to my country after completing my study as it was my original plan and we chose a long-distance relationship. However, we decided to marry five months after separating. I flew twice Australia in 2019 for completing marriage process as I didn’t want to quit my job yet. I finally moved to Australia in March 2020 just before Australia closed the border.
Application of partner visa never become easier even we are married. We prepared lots of documents as like de facto couple. We didn’t use visa agent but we got some advice for free.

If you decide to apply partner visa, the fist things you better do are preparation for online form and Form80.
Online Application form
Applicant’s application form consists 18 pages. If you want to know all questions before answering, you press “print”, then you can actually check all questions and declarations to agree and keep it as PDF file.
Interestingly, they ask ex’s information such as name, birthday, reason of breaking up, and dating duration. We are not sure if we should answer these but we wrote one or two exes who were serious relationship (never married or never de facto).
The common five questions have not been changed.
- Relationship with your partner
- Financial aspect
- The nature of the household
- Social aspect
- The nature of commitment
In the application form, we have to answer these questions in 2000 characters (NOT 2000 WORDS). So you don’t need to write much.
We submitted full statements (ignoring word limit) as attachment files though, just in case.
In addition, we wrote the reason of separation since we were a long-distance relationship for a long time. It was only 300 characters.
You can edit as many times as you want until submission.
Form 80
You can access to this file from the official website. This was very hectic as other people say.
Hard questions were – Home address (past 10 years), – Travel history (past 10 years), – Work history (SINCE BIRTH).
I personally moved a lot in the past 10 years, and traveled oversea more than 50 times…
In terms of work history, we have to fill in without gap since birth, which means we have to write all employment and unemployment. It is better you start to collect information as soon as possible and if you will write something, better prepare evidences (just in case, I am not sure if evidences for form 80 are necessary or not).
Evidences
I will write about evidences in the next post. it was complicated.
Feel free to ask questions.
